Labrujasuchus expectatus differs subtly from its relatives, showcasing a remarkable skeletal conservatism within the group. This similarity persisted for at least 10 million years across western North America.

Labrujasuchus is now the fourth recognized shuvosaur globally, joining specimens from Texas, New Mexico, and Argentina. This pattern suggests that these toothless bipeds were endemic to western North America, a unique specialization among Triassic reptile groups.

The discovery of Labrujasuchus expectatus, along with another recent find, Eosphorosuchus lacrimosa, highlights the evolving story of early crocodiles. As Miranda Margulis-Ohnuma, a Yale paleontologist, states, "For early crocs, we're very data deficient, so every new fossil changes the story."
