America is changing: Census shows greater diversity than ever

The 2020 census marks the first time in American history that the white population has experienced a decline. Here’s what that means for the future.

Just the FAQ, USA TODAY

These numbers show the 2020 census counts from the U.S. Bureau for the People, as well as USA TODAY’s analysis of how those numbers have changed since the 2010 census. Where detailed demographics appear, all racial groups are included . Ethnicity – whether someone is Hispanic or Latino – is counted separately from race by the US Census Bureau.

Communities in many locations will not reflect the total population and should not be added together. In some counties, people do not live within an incorporated community; in others, several levels of communities may overlap.
