Long wait… Census results in 3 months

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) announces that it will publish the results of the Zimbabwe Population and Housing Census 2022 which ended yesterday in three months.
However, a sweeping exercise will continue for another week to address those who may have been missed in the initial tally.

The census began on April 21.

Speaking to the Sunday Mail last night, Zimstat spokeswoman Ms Mercy Chidemo said the three months were for analyzing data collected by enumerators across the country.

“We expect the results to be ready in three months. We have a data quality management team that has worked on cleaning up data synced to the server.

“We are holding a search exercise from May 1 to 5, 2022 for those who have not been found at home by the census takers,” Ms Chidemo said.

This year’s census was paperless, as enumerators used tablets to enter data.

The new technology facilitates logical checks, validations during the interview, skip patterns and makes enumeration more efficient by ensuring that high quality data enters the server without error.

For the first time since 1901, when the very first census was taken, Zimstat has introduced a dashboard that monitors the counting process and field events in real time.

In Zimbabwe, a census is taken every 10 years and it informs how policies are made.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) completed the second phase of its mobile voter registration blitz yesterday.

In a statement, ZEC Electoral Officer Mr. Utoile Silaigwana said those wishing to register to vote should go to their offices in different districts across the country.

“…the commission’s 63 districts and 10 provincial offices will remain open during normal working hours for the purpose of continued voter registration pursuant to Section 17A of the Elections Act,” he said. . -Sunday Mail
